My Painful Toe..

I've been nursing a really bad and a really gross ingrown on my toe since the field trip. It has gone absolutely horrible and truly painful. I should get it checked soon. This is just baaad. ;'c

Unlucky. That's just what we are.

Field trip's over... Thank God. I don't even know where to begin. Pffft. Woke up early Saturday morning at the dorm, around 5am, I think. Got ready, rechecked my bags and ate a light breakfast. It 5:30 when I noticed that Mariel is nowhere in sight... We're supposed to be at school at 6am. I then realized that it was her phone's alarm clock that has been ringing and ringing for the past 30 minutes. I decided to go into her room and wake her up - She seemed pretty surprised that she didn't get to wake up.

Anyway, Drea came by with the cab at around 6:20am and so we all went to school together. There weren't too many people yet, though. At around 7:15am everyone boarded the bus and we soon left for Laguna. Had a stop-over at the Petron gas station. Sat with Deb at the bus, by the way. Mariel sat with Drea. We first went to the different Cathedrals and town squares of Bay, Pila, and Pakil. Ate a late lunch at this... errr... unsightly place called Beatles. Food wasn't bad... it just wasn't good. Then we also visited Majayjay and did some exploring around the town of Liliw where they made and sell lots of shoes. We were running late by this time and we only passed by the Nagcarlan cemetry. It was already past 6pm and it closes at 5pm... It's not like we were all looking forward to exploring the Underground Cemetery, yah know. By this time, we were only informed of the coup.

On the way to Los Banos, I don't know what happened but Jid sat next to me and Deb sat in the middle. I didn't even bother reacting or making a fuss out of it. I'm tired of the games. We then proceeded for dinner at this place called Cel's. Ugh. I tell you, the food wasn't worth it. The place was decent enough, but the food... never mind. A lot of people were pissed about the system. We paid Php 1,800 for such bad service at the field trip? Grrr... What's worse, we were stuck in the bus for 30 mins because it turned out that there was a black-out at UPLB and the National Arts Center (where we were supposed to stay for the night - this is the only thing we were really looking forward to). We had no place to stay and they were still thinking of alternatives. By this time, many people were pissed. Including me.

Finally, they decided to check-in at Splash Mountain Resort. Each "dormitory" room can accommodate 12 people - which was just absolutely perfect for us girls, since we were 12 girls in our group. I roomed with Mariel, Den, Lorce, Drea, Cham, Kay, Meggie, Loz, Ria, Nins and Deb. Twas a lot of fun, even though we were all pretty tired - it was already 10pm. The boys roomed together and they came by at around 11pm to drink, eat, play scrabble and play cards. Twas a lot of fun, I guess... Though some people were quite annoyed, it was all good. There were some instances I'd rather forget but all in all, it was fun. They finally left at around 2:30am - after much persuasion - and we got to sleep in peace and quiet. Oh, but before that, though we realized that our door got stuck as the knob got loose and we couldn't open it. We had to go in and out of the huge window. We are just sooo lucky, huh?

We woke up at around 6:30am - it was freakin cold. We had our turns in the bathroom, going in and out the window. Left the place at 8am and we then headed for Quezon. Again, I have no idea how it happened but Jid became my seatmate again. I've been suspecting Deb's loyalty. Hmph. It was okay though - I'm getting used to it. Plus he did lend me his pillow... Anyway, the really ugly thing is that, we had breakfast at that crappy Cel's place again and not only that, they also prepared our packed lunches. WTF?!

We visited Sariaya, Lucban and Tayabas in Quezon. The best place we went to was this artist-slash-potter's house. It was just extremely cool. I just don't know how to describe how amazing the place was. Anyway, in Lucban we did some shopping for pasalubong and did some sight-seeing. Finally, we turned back to Laguna and headed for home. Problem was they kept changing the routes because of the roadblocks due to the coup d'etat in Manila. We were stuck in the south doing detours for almost 4 hours before finally heading off to the South Super Highway once again. We arrived at UP by 11pm - 4 hours behind schedule.

Yes, we were that unlucky. Shit. Sure, we all had fun - but everything was just shitty.

Away for the weekend...

I can't believe I forgot to mention it here... Most of my batchmates and my classmates in Arch17 will be going away on an overnight fieldtrip this weekend to the towns of Laguna and Quezon. It should be tiring - but it should be lotsa fun, as well. I'll be with my friends, anyway - so I'll surely have a blast! Wish me a safe trip, alright?

Today, I...

woke up from a 12-hour sleep...
(I literally did not not sleep a wink last Sunday night to Monday morning just to finish the goddamned plate!)
crammed a homework for Arch 17 during Physics...
was happy that classes were suspended at noon...
ate a late lunch at Pizza Hut with some college friends...
sent 40 text messages...
attended my dormitory's acquaintance party...
won two awards: the Cruella DeVille Award and the Grumpy Award...
went home quite late...

It's a Hard-Knock Life

Well, the laptop didn't crash after all... as I am using it right now. It was just acting up, I guess. Anyway, I shouldn't be blogging at all coz I should be working on my plate for my design class due on Monday. As I've mentioned before, I'm designing a house for a personality: George Lucas... and hell, it's fun but it's really hard and time consuming. I've started working on it last night till dawn - my eyes, my hands, my back, my head... they all ache. Ugh... This damn plate consists of:

Floor Plans and a Site Development Plan
2 Elevations of the best sides of the house
A Section of the complex area of the house
An Exterior Perspective (or a Model - but I'm not opting for this one... I'm waaay behind...)
An Interior or Sectional Perspective

...So help me God.

MY LAPTOP CRASHED LAST NIGHT... *sob*...

Envy

This is one baaad sin. I don't like it. But I can't seem to avoid it nowadays. Grrr. Let's just say... I just can't fathom the fact that certain people have all the luck in the world.

Envy
Youth of Today

Constant competition and criticism between friends
We'll bite and fight with our might untill we win in the end
I've got one up on you, you've got one up on me
Overlooking each other's worthy qualities
I'm sorry it's got a hold of me
And I pray I can shake free
It'll damage my pride, It'll hurt me
So tangled up in envy
I lash out at you, you strike back at a chance
Low blows, anything goes at each other's expense
Choosing up teams, we're picking up sides
We try to nudge, and we won't budge an inch for our pride
Conceit, false prestige
Same old story, hunt for glory
Will I ever see humility?
And will it ever manifest in me?/
And when the damage is done, no one won
And that's our idea of fun...enough

Envy
Lucky Boys

Who fed our fire at such a young age
Good intentions coming off as rage
Taking sides turn another page
Hold another grudge
Who fed our fire and put us in our place
Independence smothered by your chase
Subtle hints to save a little face
Hold another grudge
Ambition is strong but out of focus
What are we trying to prove
One way competition
Sounds like envy looks like you
Turn me into you
Ambition is strong but out of focus
What am I trying to be
Stand still competition
Sounds like envy looks like me

Envy
Bracket

i see myself with nothing to do
nothing to show
for the last year or two
i don't have much left
that i can prove
i try not to dwell
on past mistakes
i try not to believe
my life's been a waste
but it comes to haunt me everyday

envy fills my mind
envy takes up all of my precious time

it leaves me with nothing else
i've lost my pride
jealousy has become part of my life
and everyone else can tell suffering
regrets of things that i have done
i don't feel content with second
to me i feel like i let down everyone

*sigh...*

UAAP season has started. Wonder how UP will do this year... We'll surely miss Mike Bravo. On the other hand, that first game with NU was pretty close - and yeah, the rookies seem to know how to play basketball. They just lack experience, but they have the confidence. Frankly, I want to have some other champion besides ADMU or DLSU this year. I don't know... the so-called rivalry is just tiring and yeah, I want some other university (maybe UST or UE) to hoist the cup up this time.

* * *

I miss having medium-length or almost-long hair. Must be having shampoo-commercial overload... or even MG overload, too. I was looking through my old high school pics back when I had my hair at a decent length... I missed having to tie up my hair in a ponytail or having it fall down my shoulders. Oh hell. What is happening to me? This is weird.

You Don't Know Me
Jann Arden

You give your hand to me
And then you say hello
And I can hardly speak
My heart is beating so
And anyone can tell
You think you know me well
But you don't know me

No you don't know the one
Who dreams of you at night
And longs to kiss your lips
Longs to hold you tight
Oh I am just a friend
That's all I've ever been
Cause you don't know me

I never knew the art of making love
No my heart aches with love for you
Afraid and shy I let my chance go by
The chance that you might love me too

You give your hand to me
And then you say goodbye
I watch you walk away beside the lucky guy
Oh you will never know
The one who loves you so
Well you don't know me

You give your hand to me
And then you say goodbye
I watch you walk away beside the lucky guy
Oh you will never know
The one who loves you so
Cause you don't know me
Oh no you don't know me
OOhh...you don't know me

A Week In The Life Of A Sophomore Arki Student

Monday

We didn't have Math that day coz we just had our first exam the Friday before that. So, the day started off with Physics - ugh! I got there pretty early and so did my other classmates from Math as it was our first class of the day. It was just funny how practically everyone in our block or everyone in our "circle of friends" were wearing white shirts! Practically 2/3 of the bunch! It had happened quite a number of times before - and the color is either white, black or blue.

Anyway, Physics was Physics [as usual] and when we got out - we made "tambay" in front of the NIP building [as usual] - trying our darndest to figure out a place to eat [as usual]. Lorce had a lunchdate with Ryan at Jolibee. The Chico (a.k.a. Ancient Arki Granny Prof) people didn't have class and had to work on their "mobiles" decided to head to Choc Kiss for lunch. And so, that left us the Chun kids - to eat at our very beloved Gloria's Cafe at Eng'g - ugh again!

Arch6 with Prof Chun was fun... We just had a lecture and we each made a presentation of our brochures. (Mine sucked big time...) Chano came in late - very late, I might add - had a grand entrance, dodging a few chairs and poking a few people before finding an empty seat. And just about three minutes after he sat down... tadaaa! His phone rang very loudly. Tsktsk. We had a class policy that "if you're phone rings, you have to sing the ringtone!" but Prof Chun seemed to have let it slide coz he ended the class after some time.

We didn't have Arch21 that day, but the Chico people were still working on their "mobiles" and as Mariel was one of them, I decided to wait up for her. After an hour or so, Kevs drove us home to our dorm - thank god, coz it was raining!

Tuesday

Math... it's really a good way to start the day, huh? Anyway, we got our exam results - and thank god, I passed! If I hadn't I would've died right then and there. That would just be torture, absolute torture, I tell yah. Other second-takers passed too and we're all pretty glad about that. The first-takers... well, I can empathize with their frustrations...

Well, after Math, Kevs drove us to Physics [as usual] - only Jax and I rode with him as the others rode with Jid. Kevs was telling me that Jid had a new song for me - and he played "Is It Okay if I Call You Mine?" by Paolo Santos in his car... Wth was that for?! I just don't get how guys' minds work anymore. I don't know why they always insist on that Jiddu-Margaux team-up... coz I don't believe it'll ever work out. I'm all for fun, entertainment and games - but sometimes they can get too much. When we got to Physics - practically everyone started hinting and teasing Jid and I for wearing striped shirts. Wtf is wrong with that, huh? Oh well. I'm getting used to it. I've no choice.

After Physics - we had lunch once again at Eng'g because we've only had a 30-min break before Arch17 that day... Most of us girls wanted to come in early as we were late in PF's class the last time. And what do you know, he's the one who's late that time. Grrr. He gave a so-called lecture on some influences of Phil Architecture complete with the pictures and slides.

All through-out the day, Aaron (our dear Chairperson in our practically non-existent org) kept pestering me about the sigsheets and wanting to meet me regarding some redecoration of the tambayan... After Arch 17, Jid and I (Drea's supposed to come with us - but she had a flight to Davao that day - long story) met up with Aaron at the tambayan. And yes, I still had to endure the jeering and the teasing... Hell. The meeting was pretty useless and pointless - as it was Aaron who decided what to do about everything. We just sat there like puppets.

As we rejoined the group (they were still working on their mobiles at the Arki lobby), Jas started humming-slash-chanting that wedding hymn. Like hell, people - could you be anymore annoying? And yeah, I waited up for Mariel again and Kevs drove us back to the dorm once again.

Wednesday

I had no class for that day. Slept late. Ate a lot. Blogged. Watched TV. Lived the life of a bum. Need I say more?

Thursday

As usual, started the day off with Math. Had some lecture. Same with Physics... Drea just came back from Davao with - Durian candies! Well, I personally don't like Durian and the smell of Durian - but the candies were yummy enough. And yeah, instead of listening in class, Kevs and Jik came up with the silly Names Chart. They listed all our names and thought up some other names they think would suit us best. Some were okay, some were nasty, others were hilarious! Kevs listed me as a Kathleen... while Jik listed me as Cathy. Errr... why? I don't know!

Guess where we had lunch? Right on. I'm getting sick of eating pasta three times a week! Arch6 was just lecture - but we were assigned another exercise by pairs. Photocopy some plans on different surfaces to be passed on Monday... Lorce and Den obviously paired up, Kay chose to work with Jik, Wacks with Chano... and yes, I was unfortunately left with Jid. Yeah. Woo-hoo. Wonder how we're gonna do it...

We had a really tough time on the esquisse for Arch21. FYI, an esquisse is like a seatwork in Arki - hands-on exercise on designing and drafting in class. That Arch21 class, which was from 3:30 - 8:00 PM (with some extension), we were told to design a cabana for our personality (mine was George Lucas) to go with the main house we were working on. Leche. That was hard. Floor plans, design concept, vignettes, perspective drawing... Hell. I think I screwed that one up.

Lorce dropped us off at the dorm - we got home at around 9:00 PM - tired and hungry.

Friday

Well, it was lucky that Math 53 prof didn't show up... We went to Physics early and studied (well, tried to study) for the horrible recit class, which happens every Friday. We were thinking that it would be an individual work - but thank god, it wasn't. I was grouped again with Jax - he is such a genius, I tell you and no, I am not a user! - and yeah, we were the first group to arrive at a logical and seemingly correct answer. It was all on Jax, I tell you... I am just in awe of his intellect. There are just some people you'd feel pretty stupid with.

We ate at Tapa King - Kev's favorite place... and proceeded for Lab... Well, what can I say? Twas a pretty boring, but hectic class. Had our first experiment regarding measurements. The instructor is very accommodating and encouraging enough. I was grouped with Deb, Den, Lorce and Drea. The other group had Jik, Jid, Kevs and Loz... Poor girl, Loz. Tee-hee.

Anyway, after a very long and tiring day... I finally got to go home and enjoy my weekend.

That's my week. Hell but fun.

Tuesday, July 08, 2003

My life revolves around school, plates, tv, food and the radio...

...in other words, I have no life. Oh well.

Anyway, just a quick question: How do you deal with one of the most annoying and obnoxious people in the world? (Quel and Jas - if you're reading this and if you've read the arki blog... You'd know what or whom I'm talking about...)

Sigh. Designing a house for George Lucas is really hard. And Smallville re-runs aren't helping at all... Oh, and plus the fact that you get to hear "Come Breathe Me" five times in one afternoon (It is a good song, but hearing Wacks sing with his boyband five times in succession is too much!)... Help!

Did I make any sense? I doubt it...

Saturday, July 05, 2003

Since school has been taking a lot of my time lately... Well, here you go, let's talk about it some more! Ugh.

My Classes and My Professors

Math 53
Elementary Analyisis I, my ass. The damned subject last summer just wouldn't let me go. But the prof's extremely good and extremely nice. Very encouraging, indeed. He's young, disciplined and a very effective teacher. Let's just hope all these would reflect on my grades. It just sucked how we were assigned to the awful Math Building Annex Room 101. They seriously need to fix it... or finish it!

Physics 71 (Lect)
Another dreadful subject. The prof's okay, I guess. Very funny and interesting... I guess, most young teachers are enjoyable enough. Though he's not as effective as Math 53 prof - he'll do I guess. It's a fun class, anyway - though there are a 100+ students. Besides, practically all my blockmates and Arki friends are there - so, it's always a lot of fun. I'm talking about the class - not Physics, mind you.

Physics 71.1 (Lab)
And yet another young professor here - it's a girl though, this time. My only female professor this sem, in fact. She seems nice and all that but she's not a good teacher. Had only yet a couple of meetings with her and I don't like her much - but she'll pass. It's only Lab, after all - how much of the teaching would matter? Anyway, I think she's got a thing for younger men. Don't tell my dear perverse male blockmates that! Oh, and another interesting fact - out of the 18 students in that class, 14 were Arki students!

Arch 6
This so far, is my favorite major subject this sem... Presentation Techniques. Well, I liked my PT class last sem too. The professor's very jolly and nice. The class is sooo much fun and interesting, too. I surely lucked out on this one - as the only other prof teaching the same subject is the legendary ancient Arki granny teacher - who knows absolutely nothing about Architecture and teaches nothing related to Architecture... Or nothing at all. I seem to like most of my PT classes.

Arch 17
Architectural History and Criticism II. Yep, it's Prof Fag once again. Let's just hope he never reads my blog or I'm dead. Usual stuff - he talks and talks and talks and we try our best to listen and not doze off. But I think he's the best teacher out of all the 3 professors teaching the subject. I mean, he was the mastermind of it all...

Arch 21
The Design Class. I suppose I like the professor... Kinda OC and very demanding with the plates, but yeah, how did I expect to learn? The workload in his class is very overwhelming, though. Sigh. But he is very easy to get along with and I think I'll learn quite a lot from him. I just hope I get a decent grade from him... with his weekly submittals - I'll go crazy!

So... there you have it folks. Now you know why I haven't been blogging much. Wish me luck.

Friday, July 04, 2003

Pffffft...

Blogging World seems to be pretty slow and practically non-existent the past few weeks...

Just had my first Math exam... I think I did okay... Well, I should've done okay... or its take 3 or die trying for me.

Shit. Just watched my Andy crash out of the Wimbledon semis. But unlike this year's Aussie Open - he wasn't tired nor did he self-destruct. As the commentators said, "Federer is winning this match, Roddick is not really losing it..." Federer was just too damn good. He'll win it vs Philippoussis in the finals.

Went to my dermatologist again. Gawd. You know what I should be feeling right now. And yeah, even worse, she started the skin-peeling-thingymajig treatment. I won't be looking anything close to a human being next week then. Dreadful. Peeling. Ugh.

Schoolwork is killing me bit by bit...
